Welcome
The Friends of the Fighting 69th was formed in late 2004 to support the families of soldiers of the famed Fighting 69th during their year long deployment to Iraq 2004/2005. During this time we held a number of fundraisers in support of the battalion and related initiatives. With the continuing support of our platinum sponsor, Prudential Financial and the generosity of many others we have been able to accomplish the following:

Provide more than $15,000 in support to the battalion’s Family Readiness Group during the Iraq and Afghanistan deployments.

Establish trust funds totaling more than $190,000 for the nineteen children of the 23 brave men of
the Fighting 69th who gave their lives for God and Country while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Provide direct support of more than $20,000 to soldiers of the 2nd Battalion, 156th Infantry, Louisiana Army National Guard who served with the 69th in Iraq who experienced financial hardship upon their return from Iraq due to the devastation of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

On March 17th, 2006 we officially welcomed home from Iraq more than 700 soldiers of the Fighting 69th and their families in a day long celebration at the historic 69th Regiment Armory in mid-town Manhattan.

On December 13th, 2007 we held a gala farewell Regimental Ball for 300 soldiers from The Fighting 69th who deployed to Afghanistan in March 2008.

On Tuesday March 10, 2009 with the continuing support of our sponsors and supporters The Friends of the Fighting 69th will hold it’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Reception at the historic 69th Regiment Armory. The proceeds from this years event will allow us to welcome home the more than 300 soldiers from the Fighting 69th who served in Afghanistan this past year as well as the remaining 1300 soldiers from New York State who served as part of Task Force Phoenix VII. The Welcome Home Celebration will begin at 1300 hrs. on Tuesday March 17, 2009 in the Armory, featuring entertainment by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band. Tragically, 13 soldiers, including four from the 69th, lost their lives in Afghanistan while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

Donations made to the Friends of the Fighting 69th are fully tax deductible pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
